The reason I haven't been updating the blog is due to the fact nothing has been happening. I wasn't able to do the WWWD this year. Just seems like lately with summer, I'm out doing alot of running around and thing else.
Last week my 12yr baby(car) indicated she had enough, and looks like it's time to take the thing into the back, and bring out the shotgun and put a bullet between the highlights and send her off to a better place. So now I have to hunt for a new set of wheels.
I did get 2 21dbi antennas to play around with(If I ever get the time) while I was at the Rochester Ham flea market, and 2 cheap'esh AP's to use with the antenna as well. Based on the calculations I've done in theory, I should be able to get about 20Km's distance with the antenna setup and AP's I have. Now I need to hack up the AP and install a new N-Connector to mate up with the antenna and get a waterproof box to install the AP in. Oh and I have to build some splitout boxes so I can do POE(Power over Ethernet) that way I'm only running one wire up the tower where I'm going to install the antenna. Once thats done, I'll do some field tests to see what kind of coverage I'll be getting.
The reason I'm all this isn't to provide free internet access to anyone in the area. But I'm trying to setup up a HSMM station(yes I'm a Ham radio operator)
I HOPE to get something going in the net 2-3 weeks. Before I know it summer will be over and I'll be getting ready to hibernate :)
I'm off to do some roughing it with the boys this weekend, so alittle fishing and camping about 3 hrs East of Toronto. This time I'll take the digital camera with me and post something from that weekend.
