Good News and Bad
Good news first. Had a drive to Sudbury and was able to log all AP found with good Lat/Long. I'll post some screen captures soon. One thing I found really interesting, and WirelessBandit noticed this as well, that a year ago, your would have found about 30% with WEP on and the other 70% not. One year later, its more like 45% with WEP on now. So people are finally learning how to pickup their manuals and read how to setup their routers.
Now the bad news. Just found out that my Laptop a IBM ThinkPad 770 DVD/CD drive doesn't work, I haven't used it in months, but since my copy of Linux on it is toasted I was going to try and reinstall Linux only to find out that the drive doesn't read disks any longer, that's how I found out that it's not working . So I'm asking nicely, anyone out there that happens to read this blog have a CD drive for a ThinkPad 770, that they care to depart with, free or really cheap??

Wednesday, September 01, 2004Bad news
Well my drive last weekend was a major flop. Out of the 300 AP's it found, 200 were useless in the sense that those 200 didn't have any GPS info! So I'm not going to bother uploaded any maps. Not sure what happened. I think it might have been a bad solder job on the $20 GPS. I think I fixed it. So I'll make another run at it this long weekend on my 350Km drive north. Until then, have a good one folks.
