I found this article a interesting read regarding how easy it really is to crack a WEP network.
So here at those articles:

Yes folks, I AM still around and kicking

I know it's been more then a few days/weeks/months since my last post. I can run down a list of excuses, but I won't. Just been busy with family and work.

Wardriving has been null'ed, well to a point. I did a trip from Toronto to Washington DC back in October, which is about a 900Km(9-10hr) drive, and I did manage to have the laptop in Wardriving mode, when I could. When it wasn't be used for navigation, WHICH by the way wasn't fool proof, god forbid you don't have a map that was released yesterday. Americans just love to change street names/numbers on a daily base. Ok I'll admit that the map (MS Street and Trips) was 2yrs old, but lord, it was more then a dozen streets we found had changed their names, OH and new roads and bridges too. Looking at the map while driving and all of a sudden your in the middle of no where. Yes I know the trip from Toronto to Washington is not rocket science, I know, but it was my first.
What else about the trip.... , Oh ya, I feel real safe now knowing that security at the pentagon is as tight as can be. While trying to find my hotel, I did the tour of the Pentagon trying to find the right road need to get me to my bed, it was 3am when I arrive, so off in the corner I see what looks like a police car. So I drive towards it in the hope to get directions. As I get closer I noticed it was a security guards car and not a police car, not a problem as long as I can get the directions from him. Getting closer to the car, I noticed that buddy was fast asleep, and in a deep sleep, took my more then a few "EXCUSE ME!" to get him to wake up and then it looks surprise and asks me whats going on?! Anyway after I woke up the guard I was able to get the needed info.
So off to the hotel and get some sleep. In the morning I fired up the laptop and get on the net(hotel had free internet access via wired network), but I decided to see if there was any wifi in the area, since I was up high in the hotel I figured I'd get something, and man was I NOT prepared to find out what I did. I'm not going to go into details, but lets just say one of the government agency better hire someone who knows what they are doing with wifi. Of course no WEP and no security at all.

Lets get one thing straight before I go on, I don't go around looking for systems to hack or do anything that would be concerned illegal. Some may think what I'm about to explain is stepping out of bounds, I just looked and did not touch.
I ran a quick IPSCAN to just see who it really was. Thinking maybe someone decided to come up with some creative SSID, and it wasn't. The scanner found more then 50 PCs, which I'm sure were more then ready to be compromised. That's as far across the line I wanted to step. Ya I was a little shocked but not really, it just totally blows my mind away how stupid some people can get. WIFI is RF, it goes beyond your four walls, come one!!! I guess the same goes with people using cordless phones and you know more then enough people use them every day and not think twice about what they are saying is being transmitted through the walls and down the street. It really doesn't matter what kind of cordless you have if it's based on the old 46/49Mhz, 900Mhz or 2.4Ghz. There are people listening! Don't think because you move from one room to the other and you get a bad signal that the signal isn't traveling down the street. I can understand that the average joe doesn't know the theory behind radio or know what they are really using(a transmitter). Most just pick up the phone and then proceed to do all their banking via touchtones, and not realizing that someone with a scanner in the area can easily feed that audio into a sound card and your good to go with decoding all the tones that your punching into the phone, be it your account number or pin. The street is listening.

What else... Just recently I(this week) I purchased a new laptop(new for me) a IBM ThinkPad T22. Specs are 900Mhz, 512Megs Ram, 20 Gig HD and DVD Drive.
Hopefully the battery is in good condition, since it is used I am not expecting wonders on the battery life, but to get a new battery for the T22 will end up costing me about half of what it would cost me to get a battery for my Sherman tank ThinkPad 770 I currently have. The T22 should give me something to do on my way to work and home on the train ride which takes me about 1hr each way daily. I will then be able to create and post more blogs in the upcoming few weeks.
Since Wardriving is somewhat dead right now, I'm going to do something different with the blog, and gear it towards interesting items I find during my surfs of the net, and even maybe funny stories of stuff I have done in the past. I hope that you all enjoy it and please post comments or send me a private email and let me know what you think.

How about I start it off by something I have just fallen in love with of late called, Podcasting, to get a better understanding what it's all about, have a jump over to wikipedia - Podcasting. I keep hearing more and more referring this to the future of Radio over the internet. It's radio served to you, what you want to hear and when. I have personally been using Nimiq as my windows client to grab the feeds. I haven't gotten anything for Linux just yet, until I get the laptop up and running with my Wardriving/Wifi utils then I could spend a little more time exploring what is out there for the Linux. Once you do get the client up and running, make sure you add Adam Curry, the grand daddy of Podcasting, to your feeds.

Well I guess that's it for now. Keeping busy with X-Mas shopping and projects at work. I hope to have the Laptop up and running by the beginning of the new year and post a little more often.
